There is strong evidence for the use of telehealth within primary, behavioral, and specialty health care and the COVID-19 pandemic has widely expanded its applications. With this usage, health care providers have gained further practical experience on what works well and what challenges need to be addressed. Overcoming those challenges is key, as telehealth and remote patient evaluation and monitoring can be especially beneficial for specific uses, such as prescreening for infectious disease and providing direct care for certain patient populations, including those who are chronically ill, pregnant, elderly or immunocompromised.
