If you are interested in a doctoral health career, you are not required to major in a science to be a pre-medical or pre-dental student. Students admitted to U.S. medical schools and the other professions come from all possible undergraduate majors. Students should choose a major based on their interests. At ASU a large majority of students who went on to medical schools have majored in biology, chemistry, psychology, physics and engineering. However, it is not unusual for someone who majors in political science, English literature, sociology or a non-science field to be accepted, if the student receives acceptable grades in the required undergraduate science work. The following list exemplifies recommended majors for pre-medical and pre-dental students.
